Extract 46 from ‘Letters of Louis Cattiaux to his friend Auguste Chauvet’: (loosely translated from the French from archive material)
” ‘ Bless your enemies’- In fact, it is not in cursing them that you will bring them back to the Truth. The ultimate consequence for me in all temptation occasions is that one must pray for the conversion of Satan and ours as well. This is the most efficient way to be freed. On the contrary, when struggling against the dark angel we sparkle his anger and we give hold to evil that will fury against us until we have been flattened and pulverized in our vain and grotesque surge against him.On the other way round, when praying for our conversion and Satan’s one, we place the enemy in an impossible field of fight, impossible for both. He must convert effectively or he has to withdraw fast, as he is the one bare and exposed, not us anymore.
We all know the ‘stupid’ formula : ‘ vade retro satanas’ , said when we get our butt kicked and elsewhere. What we should say is : ‘ Come brother Satan to get the kiss of peace and God’s forgiveness, come to make your submission to the magnificent God, so to be rehabilitated fully and freed from the sterile rebellion, come because we love you even though and we pray that you may be saved like us !’. You see the unbearable and astonishing situation…And you will notice how it is efficient in the world when with an evil person that we crush with his evilness that he will become even more enraged and sink deeper into evil but, if we call for the light buried deep inside him, he is like unarmed and feels unease and cannot pursue in his evil actions.
This is an astonishing find, inspired to me…There is only one step to imagine Satan being chased for conversion and some holy souls will step in promptly for sure and we will assist to this amazing happening: Satan being chased with love by the faithful, the tempter being tempted and tried in his turn by forgiveness and grace…Satan ‘a l’hallali ‘ (being hunted down like in the fox hunt) with the pack of kneeling saints crying of love for the mighty rebel…And you can imagine the success and the reintegration of God ‘s most beautiful angel !
Enough of our defensiveness and passivity, we are ought to reach out with amazing audacity towards our strayed brothers and buy them back with love
Then we will be true disciples of Christ. All of this may seem a bit comic but, believe me this is the only solution to the misfortune that is ripping us off all in this world.”
